If you want to get there without stress, you sort the car before you arrive, not once you've landed and started improvising.

Booking a private transfer ahead of time takes out the part of the trip most likely to go sideways. How long is the drive, and what is the route?

From Marrakech or Menara Airport, the drive runs up to about an hour. Your exact pickup spot and the traffic getting out of the city decide where you fall in that window. Most of the way is paved road, heading southwest out of Marrakech toward the Agafay plateau, and that part is an easy, comfortable ride.

The trip changes near the end. The final approach to La Pause drops off the tarmac onto an unpaved desert piste. A regular city car can struggle here, particularly after rain or when the sand goes soft, and a driver who doesn't know the turnoffs can lose the thread completely.

Since that last section is unmarked and shifts with the weather, knowing the ground and bringing the right car decides whether you glide in or grind to a halt. Our drivers read the piste and pick the right line for the day's conditions. For La Pause especially, we match the vehicle to your group and to the track, so you pull up at reception instead of stalling somewhere short of it.

Fixed price and what is included

We price per vehicle, not per head. So whether one of you travels or several, up to the car's capacity, the rate holds. You see the cost before you book, and we put it in writing.

• 140€ — round trip across separate days (drop-off one day, pickup another, for example).
• Price is per vehicle, covering your whole party up to capacity.

Where we pick you up

Menara Airport

Flying in? Send us your flight number when you book. We watch the flight, so landing late or early won't cost you your ride. Your driver waits in arrivals with a name sign, takes your bags, and walks you to the car.

Coming straight off the plane, this is the cleanest way to reach La Pause. You walk past the airport taxi queue and head out toward Agafay with a driver who already knows the camp.

Riads and the medina

Plenty of riads sit inside the medina, where the lanes are too narrow for any car to reach the door. We set a pickup at the nearest spot a vehicle can actually reach and tell you precisely where to meet, usually a known gate or square a short walk from your riad. Mention it ahead of time and your riad staff can point you straight to it.

Give us your riad name and address when you book, and we'll confirm the meeting point in writing. No confusion on the morning of your transfer.

Anywhere in Marrakech city

Staying somewhere with normal street access, say a hotel or apartment in Gueliz, Hivernage, or the Palmeraie? We collect you right at the door. Wherever you are in the city, send the address and we'll work out the easiest pickup for the run out to La Pause.

Why not just take a street taxi or a ride-hailing app?

A grand taxi looks cheaper on paper. The trouble is, those drivers rarely know the exact piste to La Pause, and most won't leave the tarmac for an off-grid camp, or aren't equipped to. You get quoted one price, asked for more on arrival, and sometimes dropped somewhere that isn't even the camp.

Ride-hailing apps bring their own headaches. Coverage thins as you leave the city, drivers bail on the longer desert runs, and catching a return ride from La Pause is close to impossible: signal is weak and no cars pass through. You can end up stuck at the camp with no way back.

A private transfer settles both ends of the trip in one go. The price is fixed and agreed before you set off, the driver knows the way to the camp, and your return is locked in rather than left to luck in a spot with barely any reception.

Choosing the right vehicle for your group

We run a fleet of around 70 vehicles, which lets us fit the car to your party size, your luggage, and the state of the track. Tell us how many of you are coming and how much you're bringing.

• Sedan — best for one to three passengers traveling light. Comfortable and easy on cost for couples or solo travelers heading to La Pause.
• Minivan — the right call for families or small groups of four to seven, with room for the luggage on the same booking.
• 4x4 — extra peace of mind on the unpaved piste, handy after rain or when the sand near the camp turns soft.
• Coach — for bigger groups and events; we can move sizable parties in one coordinated transfer.

Arriving at La Pause

A lot of guests aim for late afternoon, reaching the camp around sunset when the Agafay light goes golden. Tell us when you'd like to arrive and we'll set the pickup so you're not racing the desert track as the light fades.

Your driver carries you the whole way in along the piste and drops you right at La Pause reception, not at some vague point on the road. The camp runs off-grid and goes candlelit after dark, so getting in with a bit of daylight left makes settling in far easier.

One thing before your driver pulls away: lock in your return. With the signal so patchy at the camp, fixing the pickup day and time in advance is the surest way to know a car will come back for you.

Practical tips for your transfer

• Sort your return before you arrive. Signal at La Pause is thin, so nail down the pickup day and time while you can still talk easily.
• Send your flight number if you're coming from the airport, so we can track arrivals and ride out any delays.
• Ask for child seats when you book if you've got young kids, and tell us their ages.
• Save our WhatsApp and message us before you head into the low-signal zone if anything changes.
• Pack water and a warm layer. Desert evenings cool off fast, and La Pause has no grid power after dark.
