Marrakech City to Agafay: your private transfer

You are based somewhere in Marrakech, and your camp sits out in the Agafay desert. About an hour of road separates the two, and the last leg is a dirt track that runs right up to the camp gate. Getting there on time, on your own schedule, without a fuss at the door, is the whole point of this transfer.

Taxi Agafay runs private, fixed-price rides from any address in the city. We collect you at your riad, hotel, or apartment, whether you are in Gueliz, Hivernage, the Palmeraie, near the medina, or anywhere else. One price per vehicle, confirmed in writing before you set off.

Departure time is yours to pick, and it matters more than people expect. Plenty of guests aim to reach the desert just before sunset, when the light over the hills turns gold. We build the pickup around that goal rather than the other way around.

Most camps cost 80€ one way or as a same-day round trip. Nkhila Lodge and Stellar, the two farthest out, come to 100€. Nothing changes when you arrive.

How it works

Send us three things: your pickup address, the name of your camp, and the date and time you want to leave. We assign a driver and a vehicle sized for your group and bags, then reply with a written confirmation that includes the agreed price and the pickup details.

Inside Marrakech the service is door-to-door. At most riads and hotels the driver pulls up to the entrance and meets you there. The medina is different, since cars cannot reach every front door, so we settle on the closest spot a car can reach, often a gate or a little square a short walk away, and the driver waits there holding your name.

On the day itself, the driver shows up at the agreed time and reaches out on WhatsApp or by phone if anything needs sorting. Traffic and those one-way medina lanes can push an arrival back by a few minutes, which is why we ask for a clear meeting point in the tight areas so nobody ends up circling the block.

The route leaves the city on tarmac heading southwest, then drops onto the piste for the final run to your camp. Your driver knows which camp sits at the end of which track, so you get dropped at the correct gate instead of squinting at the horizon hoping for the best.

Fixed price and what is included

• 80€ to most Agafay camps, one way or a same-day round trip (we drop you off and pick you up the same day).
• 100€ to the two farthest camps, Nkhila Lodge and Stellar, one way or same-day round trip.
• 140€ for a round trip across separate days, say a drop-off one day and a collection the next.
• Price is per vehicle, never per person, so it costs the same whether you ride alone or pack the car.
• A private ride with nobody else sharing the car.
• Door-to-door pickup from your Marrakech address to the camp gate.
• Luggage included, up to whatever the vehicle you book can hold.
• A licensed, professional driver who actually knows the desert tracks.
• The full fare confirmed in writing before travel, so there is nothing left to argue over on arrival.

How long does it take?

Count on up to about an hour from a central Marrakech address to most Agafay camps. Where you start, how heavy the city traffic runs that day, and which camp you booked all nudge the number around.

Think of the drive in two halves. The first runs on tarmac out of Marrakech toward the southwest, and that part moves quickly. The second is the unpaved piste, where the driver eases off to work with the surface, so this last stretch eats more time per mile than the open road does.

Starting from the Palmeraie or the far edge of the medina? Add a little extra just to clear the city. We fold all of that into the pickup time we agree on, especially when sunset is the target.

Planning a same-day round trip? Give us your return time at booking. Depending on how long you want to stay, the driver either waits at the camp or comes back to fetch you.

Choosing the right vehicle

• Sedan — ideal for one or two travelers with normal luggage. Comfortable on tarmac and steady on the firmer parts of the piste.
• Minivan — the usual pick for families and small groups, with space for several passengers and their suitcases.
• 4x4 — handy when you want more clearance on the unpaved approach, or when you are hauling a lot of gear.
• Coach — for bigger groups moving together. Give us a headcount and we size it correctly.

At booking, just say how many people are coming and how much luggage you have. We choose the vehicle and lock it in with the price, so nobody is left wondering whether everyone and everything will fit.

Why book a private transfer instead of a street taxi or app

A taxi you flag outside the hotel is made for short hops across town, not a run into the desert. Many drivers simply will not take on the piste, and the ones who agree have often never driven it and have no idea which track leads to which camp.

Then there is the money. With a street taxi you negotiate at the curb, and the figure has a habit of climbing the moment the driver hears "Agafay" and "desert." Our per-vehicle price is fixed and written down before you leave, which kills the haggling and any end-of-ride surprise.

Ride-hailing apps work fine in central Marrakech but fade fast at the city edge, and out on the desert tracks the coverage gets shaky. A car that does accept the trip might have no real sense of the destination, and if the drop-off goes sideways in open country, you have very little to fall back on.

A private transfer clears all of that away. Your driver is expecting you, knows the camp, runs the piste regularly, and can be reached on WhatsApp before pickup. You move on your own timing, with one driver from the city all the way to the gate.

• Send your exact pickup address, and in the medina add a nearby landmark or car-accessible gate where the driver can wait.
• Double-check the precise name of your camp at booking, since several camps sit on different tracks across the Agafay.
• Chasing sunset? Tell us, and we will count the departure time backward from there.
• Keep your phone charged and reachable on WhatsApp so the driver can find you fast on the day.
• Flag your luggage in advance so the assigned vehicle has the room.
• For a same-day round trip, share your return time at booking and we will arrange the collection.
• Pack a light layer. Desert evenings turn cool once the sun drops, even after a hot day in the city.
• Tell us your spoken language and we will assign a driver who speaks it where we can.
