Most of the way runs on smooth, paved road as you head out of town into the open country south of the city. The view changes slowly: city walls give way to scrubland, then to the rolling stony hills that announce the start of the Agafay.

The last bit is a different animal. The final approach to the camp is an unpaved piste, packed earth and loose gravel instead of asphalt. Short, but it pays to have a driver who has done it. Someone who knows where to ease off, where the surface turns soft, and which fork actually leads to The White Camel and not the camp next door.

Vehicle choice earns its keep right here. A well-kept sedan takes the piste fine in dry, ordinary conditions. For a bigger group, more bags, or if you just want extra clearance and a softer ride over the rough patch, a minivan or 4x4 is the smarter pick. Why not just grab a street taxi or open an app?

A grand taxi runs cheap inside Marrakech, fair enough. For The White Camel, though, you're at the mercy of whatever gets negotiated on the spot. The driver might not know the desert turnoff, might balk at the unpaved section, might bump the price once you're committed and well out of town.

Arriving at The White Camel

Lots of guests aim to roll in during the late afternoon, reaching camp as the desert light goes soft toward sunset. If that's the plan, say so. We'll set the pickup so you're neither rushing nor crawling over the piste in full dark.

Your driver carries you the whole way in and drops you right at camp reception, not at the edge of the track to fend for yourself. After a long flight or a packed day in the medina, that door-to-tent finish lands as a small relief.
